5 Author Interview Questions about Book Writing Process Answered

#1 What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

At first, I brainstorm the purpose for my writing. Then look for a specific era in which I can set that purpose. I use google, google earth and Facebook to contact the locals of the country I am planning to set the story in. I ask them their first hand knowledge regarding any of the local folk tales or any specific event they think I should mention in my story. Along side, I plot my story…

#2 Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Surely, it energizes me. It gives me strength to work on other stuff I do. So, whenever I feel low I start working on my novel. It helps me mentally. Even in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep, I open my laptop and start typing.

#3 Does a big ego help or hurt writers?

Well, it hurts for sure. As they say, you have to kill your ego to ruthlessly promote your book. It’s a social media world, the more you are active online the more there are chances for you to sell.

Also, your ego can be a hurdle in between the process of learning and becoming a better author. Not only promotion but from learning point of view you need to say goodbye to your ego and ask as many readers and fellow authors as you can to read your work. The more constructive feedback you receive, the more you’ll learn.

#4 What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

A lot. Can’t name them all. But, yes, through Facebook and Instagram I’ve came across so many authors from around the world and believe me that all helped me become what I am today. Giving critique and sending some amazing motivating messages has always helped me.

#5 How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?

I am working on a trilogy, the Mujahid Khan thrillers. Two of the book’s first draft is complete and I am writing the third one which is taking a whole lot more time. After I’ll get it edited. I plan to submit it to as many agents as I can. This time I want to dip my toes in traditional publishing and see if it works for me.
