The Guy or Girl in the Glass
Do you want to determine where you are right now in your life instantly? Do you want to get clarity on what is happening in your life and why it is happening? Do you wish to understand why your life is filled with the lack of love, respect, amazing friends, outstanding opportunities and exciting stories to share? Do you want to know all this about your self without much initial reflection?
One of the most authentic and easiest way to know about your state of mind is taking this one simple action exercise. Go and stand in front of the mirror and look at yourself. Do not just stand there and see. Look into the guy or the girl in the mirror.
- What is the first thing that comes to your mind?
- How do you feel about yourself?
- What is the kind of talk you are having with yourself?
- What is going in your mind?
These few seconds or more are the litmus test of your current self and the answers you get can change your life forever.
Are the thoughts and self-talk something along these lines?
- I am fat and ugly.
- Whatever I do, no-one likes me.
- I am a loser. I don’t have success and money like others.
- I am a failure. No matter how hard I try, I will not achieve my goal.
- I am simply unlucky.
- No-one loves me.
- I am not able to be respected.
- I hate myself.
If you are the kind of guy or girl who cannot even walk to the glass or cannot look up straight in the glass, then your current self faces even more challenges and needs much more attention.
In either case,if the guy or the girl in the glass, is one that is holding negative images, having negative self-talk or has a list of faults in sight – it is time to wake up and make the bold choice to change what is right now in the guy’s or the girl’s head. This life changing choice can only be made with a will or desire to change your condition and with a firm belief in yourself. You have to put in all the effort that is needed.
The first thing you need to realize is your expectation from life. What is your expectation(s) from life and the people around you?
If you desire love, respect, beauty, happiness and luck or any other thing from life or from other people, you first have to stop and get clear on what thoughts you are having right now about yourself.
If you hate yourself, if you talk to your self with dis-respect, if you believe you are a loser and an extremely unlucky person, how do you believe others to love you, or respect you? How do you expect your life to make you lucky when all you believe, think, concentrate and attach unluckiness with it.
For a second imagine that the guy or girl in the glass were separate from you.
If you cannot love the guy or the girl in the glass, will you recommend that person to others? Will you ask others to love that person? Will you highlight the good stuff about that person when you are not able to see the good qualities of the person? How will you justify telling others to respect the person if you yourself did not show him/her respect?
In fact, it is highly unlikely that you will even want to talk about the guy or the girl with little value and if you talk, it will not be something great or even good.
Always Remember,
- You have to love yourself before others can love you.
- You have to respect yourself before others can respect you.
- You have to believe in yourself before others can believe you.
- You have to keep commit to yourself before others can commit to you.
- You have to value yourself before others can value you.
And to do all the above and more,
You have to find reasons to be yourself first before others can find, appreciate and value your unique self
On the other hand, you could be a person with a lot of success, money and fame in life but if you are not satisfied with yourself, then nothing matters. What really matters is what you hear from the guy in the glass or the girl in the glass. What really matters is what you see when you meet the guy in the glass or the girl in the glass. Even if the world disapproves or degrades you for taking bold choices or standing firm on your beliefs and protecting your rights, just go in front of the mirror to get rid of the pain and confusion if it ever arises. If you can look straight in the eye of the guy or the girl in the glass, you are on the right path. Forget about the rest!
I am leaving you with this beautiful and inspirational poem. It has been one of my personal favorites and I thought it is time to share it with all of you for some sunny inspiration. You can have a few quiet reflection filled moments with the poem titled, The Guy in the Glass (original version) by Dale Wimbrow. This is the choice you can make for living a life of choice. Live it or Leave it; the choice is up to you. Hope you get some kick out of it! #ownyourkick
The Guy in the Glass
by Dale Wimbrow, (c) 1934
When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf,
And the world makes you King for a day,
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that guy has to say.
For it isn’t your Father, or Mother, or Wife,
Who judgement upon you must pass.
The feller whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the guy staring back from the glass.
He’s the feller to please, never mind all the rest,
For he’s with you clear up to the end,
And you’ve passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the guy in the glass is your friend.
You may be like Jack Horner and “chisel” a plum,
And think you’re a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you’re only a bum
If you can’t look him straight in the eye.
You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you’ve cheated the guy in the glass.
